Agriculture fair seeks homegrown talent
The Franklin County Agricultural Fair seeks to showcase exhibits, such as fresh vegetables, fruits, quilts and more, during its fourth annual event set for Sept. 13 through 16.
Entries will be accepted Sept. 10, from 2 to 5 p.m., and Sept. 11, from 3 to 7 p.m., at the Franklin County Recreation Park in Rocky Mount.
Participants may enter agriculture-related items in three categories, agriculture products, homemaking and crafts. The categories are further broken down by class to include fresh and canned fruits and vegetables, baked goods, canned meats, flowers, quilts and more. Participants can enter items in various categories, but are limited to only one item per class. There is no fee to enter.
The top three winners from each class will receive ribbons and cash prizes.
“Competitive exhibits are a great way to celebrate local and regional agriculture and the skills of the participants who grow and create these wonderful items,” said Carol Haynes, extension agent with Virginia Cooperative Extension who is chair of the fair’s competitions committee.
