Eating out more often? Your acidity spices up India’s factory output growth

Do more Indians opt for eating out or order food from home instead of eat home-cooked less-spicy food? It can be inferred from the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and inflation numbers.

The production of digestive enzymes and antacids pushed up industrial production in May 2017 by 2.4%, according to a press release put out by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

What makes it an unusual rise is the weight of digestive enzymes and antacids in the IIP. It is just 0.22%.

Digestive enzymes and antacids had also contributed handsomely to industrial growth in April 2017.
